Eco Features In The Yurt

Eco Features In The Yurt

As you know, environmental sustainability is an important value to us here at The Cedars Ranch. There are many ways that our new wedding venue and wellness retreat will be eco-friendly. You can visit our "Green" webpage for more information on how our future event center will be ecologically sustainable and climate responsible.

This week we want to share some eco-friendly features in the yurt!

Reused and Recycled Materials

We both, in conjunction with our interior designers Jameson Interiors, had a lot of fun choosing interior yurt decor made from reused and recycled materials. It was important to us that our purchasing choices be fueled by our desire to live in a more environmentally friendly manner.

Remember we showed you this photo of our dining space a few weeks ago and asked you to guess what our new lampshade was made of?

Well here it is close-up with the light on! It's made of reused cardboard!!

Check this out too. The beautiful large rug beneath our bed is made from 100% recycled plastic.

Would you ever guess that our kitchen cabinet exteriors are made from recycled soda bottles?

Last year IKEA came out with their new sustainably designed kitchen cabinets. Ikea paired up with Swedish design studio Form Us With Love to create kitchen cabinets made entirely from reclaimed industrial wood and plastic bottles, hence saving large amounts of materials going directly to landfill. Twenty-five plastic bottles are used in each 15.75-by-31.5-inch cabinet. Isn't that cool? You can read more about it in the article: "Ikea's new cabinets are made of recycled materials but don't look like garbage." (We like that title!)

As well as supporting the reuse and recycle economy through our purchasing power, we also take the opportunity to reduce, reuse, recycle and compost in the yurt itself. Anyone renting our yurt will also be required to abide by these eco practices too.

Energy & Water Efficiency

Wanting to have minimal impact on natural resource usage, we opted for energy and water efficient equipment. Our Bosch washer and dryer are Energy Star rated and "HE" (High Efficiency). The washer plugs in to the dryer for electrical power. The dryer is ventless, it condenses and drains through the same drain as the washer, making it highly water efficient too.

Yurt - Eco Dwelling

The yurt itself is an environmentally friendly dwelling.

"The simplicity of the yurt's framework not only reduces the amount of raw materials used to build a home, but also drastically reduces the amount of natural resources and labor required to erect the structure. Aside from the shockingly less building materials that would be required to build a yurt, the circular shape of these structures promote proper circulation of light, air, heat, and sound, which in turn promotes a more energy efficient space." On that note, we will start renting our yurt in a few weeks. We'll share when we're ready for business!

Until next week,

Marilyn & Bill.

Have you ever considered about adding a little bit more than just your articles?

I mean, what you say is fundamental and everything.
However imagine if you added some great visuals or video clips to give your
posts more, "pop"! Your content is excellent but with images and video clips, this
blog could certainly be one of the greatest in its niche.
Superb blog!
