Marketing / Communications Internship at The Cedars Ranch

The Cedars Ranch is a new contemporary eco event space and wellness destination in the Texas Hill Country, designed for hosting weddings, special events and corporate and wellness retreats.

Our business focus is tri-fold - personal wellness, organizational well-being and celebrations. This includes weddings, yoga retreats, corporate team-building, leadership skills development trainings, etc. Our business model is based on optimizing our venue for rentals (weddings, retreats, special events), as well as running our own in-house events (wellness events and retreats, corporate trainings etc.).

Over the past few of years we have developed a strong social media presence on multiple platforms, and have been marketing our facility in various ways. Now with our venue newly open (since spring 2019), the workload is increasing and creating exciting opportunities for student support. Chiefly, we need assistance with marketing, social media and PR. 

Please note that this is an unpaid internship opportunity.

Intern Tasks

Marketing & Social Media Strategies:

  • Assisting with venue and event social media and marketing strategy
  • Researching best practice social media and marketing ideas for our industry
  • Researching target markets 
  • Researching competitors
  • Creating media pitches / Calls to action

Performance Reporting:

  • Reporting on monthly social media performance 
  • Reporting monthly on google analytics

Build Our Contacts Lists:

  • Developing contact lists for our upcoming events and venue promotion 
  • Gathering contact details of corporate event planners, wellness practitioners, foundations / non-profits etc.

Social Media Specific Tasks:

  • Instagram: Schedule Instragram posts and post stories; Update all our hashtag lists to optimize all posts; Grow our audience; Interact with community; etc.
  • Facebook: Schedule Facebook posts and post stories; Grow our audience; Interact with community; Join relevant FB groups and interact e.g. weddings, wellness, Wimberley etc.
  • Pinterest: Grow our pins, followers and interact.

Intern Working Environment

Option 1: Working Remotely

As an intern, you will be working remotely and in direct communication with our venue operations manager, Brenda Ryan ([email protected]). She is based out of her home office in south Austin, and is available to meet in person every few weeks to discuss work progress, provide feedback, work together in updating marketing and social media strategies etc. When not meeting in person, you will remain in direct ongoing email contact with each other. There will also be opportunities to visit the venue itself, based just outside Wimberley.

Option 2: Working Onsite

If required, we can provide you with office space onsite at The Cedars Ranch. Our venue is just outside Wimberley in the Texas Hill Country, so if this is something you would like to avail of, we can communicate more with the owners Marilyn and Bill ([email protected]) about this option. 

Work Hours

We are flexible regarding scheduled work hours, and would like to accommodate you and your needs as much as we can. Saying that, a good schedule would be to work the days when our operations manager is working, so you can communicate with each other in real time. Brenda works Monday - Thursday. You may also want to assist us onsite when we are running our own events, or when we are preparing for other events. These usually, but not always, fall on a Saturday. 

Access to Learning & Training Resources

Whether working onsite or remotely, you will have access to learning and training resources that we have available to us through our activities here at The Cedars Ranch. For example, we have access to free online marketing / social media training via Hootsuite, 17hats, Mailchimp, as well as Eventbrite and The Knot / Wedding Wire.
