Permaculture Queens

Permaculture Queens

For the past few weeks Marisa Negri has been volunteering every Wednesday at The Cedars Ranch, helping our gardener Paige Dunlap. This week we go behind-the-scenes with Marisa! Here she is pruning some flowers in our garden …

We met Marisa one evening when Bill and I were out for dinner. It was one of those chance encounters that flourished into something more! We shared how we were in the process of building a green wedding venue / event center in the Hill Country, and she eagerly shared that it was indeed her dream some day to run her own sustainable wedding venue too! We knew this wasn’t a random meeting! Having some availability in her weekly schedule she agreed to come volunteer at The Cedars Ranch weekly, loving the idea of working with our gardener and permaculturist Paige, getting to know more about organic gardening and permaculture principles.

“I really look up to my mentor Paige who is teaching me so much every Wednesday that I volunteer at The Cedars Ranch ... She's a total hippie goddess, permaculture queen!!", says Marisa. Here's Paige in her element! After deadheading and pruning all the garden flowers, she makes beautiful floral arrangements with the remaining flower bounty!

"Last week I learned to deadhead and prune flowers, chop and drop mulch from rye grass and clover in berms, and survive seven hours of 100 degree Texas heat!” ~ Marisa

“Do you see the preying mantis? I was pruning back flowers and he was so polite to move to the ornamental corn so that I could cut the flower stem he was previously hanging out on!” ~ Marisa

Thank you Marisa for jumping on board with us here at The Cedars Ranch!

Until next week,

Marilyn & Bill.
